Staff feel encouraged in the workplace if their good work is noticed and appreciated. They will certainly enjoy their job better, do their best work, maintain positive work relationships and stay with the University longer.
Being an advocate of the motivating power of appreciation, the University has set up since 2000/01 the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance for Academic / Teaching Staff to recognize their outstanding achievements. After a trial run in 2012/13, the University also implements a university-wide award scheme for non-teaching staff from 2014/15 – Reward and Recognition Scheme for Non-teaching Staff with a purpose of recognising non-teaching staff who have made significant contributions and/or provided exceptional service beyond their scope of normal duties, in support of achieving the University’s strategic goals.
